MOSCOW (Reuters) - Josef Stalin was in the dock on Monday when a Russian court held a preliminary hearing in a libel case brought by his grandson over a newspaper story which said the tyrant had ordered the killings of Soviet citizens.  Rights groups say the case shows a creeping attempt in modern Russia to paint a more benevolent picture of the Soviet Union's most feared leader, under whose rule millions perished.

He could probably win in some courts in the United States.

Headline in The Politico today:  Lincoln comes out against public option.

Ever since he issued the Emancipation Proclamation, he's gotten more conservative.

Aug. 31 (UPI) -- People in the United States, the United Kingdom and Canada don't have much respect for politicians and car salesmen, a survey indicated.  In all three countries, the professions of politician and car salesman command respect from 31 percent or fewer residents, the poll by Angus Reid Strategies of San Francisco found.  The profession that commands the most respect in all three countries is nursing, at more than 90 percent. Farmers also merit a high level of respect -- at 95 percent in Canada and the United States and 81 percent in the Britain.

Of course, political bloggers were the most respected of all.  (No, not really.)
